Commission opportunity: Artist/Sculptor/Designer for Landmark Feature, Nottingham City Council
Landmark Feature - Bulwell Joint Service Centre, Nottingham
Bulwell Joint Service Centre, due for completion in Autumn 2011, will offer citizens easy, convenient and local access to City Council services, local GP Practices, NHS Nottingham City clinics and Nottingham City Homes housing services.
Seeking an experienced and dynamic artist with a background in large scale public artworks to create a significant arts-based intervention to be incorporated externally to the building or its grounds at one or two highly visible points. This feature could incorporate lighting or technology to create a focal point and there is a strong preference that it contain the name of the Centre in some form.
The commission should fulfill the following objectives:
- To design innovative and excellent site-specific public art which will announce the presence of the project within the town and become a landmark feature well into the future.
- To engage local people, user groups, staff in the creative process of designing the artwork.
The commission must deliver the following outcomes:
- A coherent site-specific permanent artwork or artworks that will be visually engaging and accessible to visitors both physically and conceptually referring to the document titled ‘Art at the Heart’ for projects within the Bulwell JSC scheme.
- Proposals must include details costings up to the value of £20,000 which will be funded partly from the Arts Budget and partly by external funding.
This is an open call out for interest, 3 artists will be shortlisted to develop outline designs. Selected artists to develop outline designs and costings will receive a fee of £1000 each. One artist and their design will be selected to take the commission forward into a fully developed proposal and will receive a further £2000.
