GREAT NORTHERN CONTEMPORARY CRAFT FAIR IS BACK FOR THIRD YEAR

The Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair in Manchester is the ideal place to buy totally unique high quality work.

Now in its third year, the contemporary craft buying event will feature 150 designer-makers in ceramics, jewellery, textiles, glass, furniture and other fashion, home and interior products.

All the exhibitors are professional designer-makers and only have 40% chance of making it through the tough selection process. To buy something designed and crafted by hand is both an investment and something to enjoy.

Organiser Angela Mann said: “The event is now in its third year and we are thrilled by the quality and innovation of this year’s applicants. We have a tough selection process so only the very best and innovative designer-makers get through, making sure the work we show is of the highest quality.”

This year, the organisers have announced the addition of Great Northern Graduates, an area of the show which showcases the best from this year’s creative degree courses. This year’s graduates could end up producing future collectors’ pieces.

Showcasing their work in this prime exhibition space, successful graduates will gain exposure to leading curators, buyers, journalists, collectors, galleries and the public, providing an essential element in the transition from student to employable designer.
Organiser Ann-Marie Franey added, “This year we’re really proud to extend the event to add the Great Northern Graduates area. We set up this event to champion designer-makers and bring their work to a Northern audience, so we’re really pleased to be supporting newcomers and exhibiting their work.”

Visitors at the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair can spend the day in a relaxed yet stimulating atmosphere, chat to the makers and find out the story behind the work. The event will give visitors an appreciation of how much work goes into each unique piece and offers the opportunity to buy directly from the person who made it.

Set in a pavilion in the Spinningfields district of Manchester, the event was set up in 2008 to introduce contemporary craft to a Northern audience. The event has gone from strength to strength and last year’s event saw 6,400 visitors, an increase of 50% on the previous year.
